School of Education

The School of Education at the University of Iceland educates teachers for preschools, basic schools and upper secondary schools, sports and health scientists, social educators and leisure professionals. The Iceland University of Education, which has now merged with the University of Iceland, forms the core of the new School of Education.

The School of Education offers programmes for exchange students and regular international students. All academic programmes at the School of Education are strongly linked to the workplaces of those professions the school educates, such as schools and other societal institutions. The studies provide a wide range of professional options, and serve as a good foundation for further studies.

At the School of Education diverse research is carried out in the fields of education, pedagogy and training, for the purpose of creating new knowledge for the benefit of Icelandic society. Emphasis is placed on a vigorous support service for teaching, studying and research, through the school's Learning Centre, which combines the library, teaching materials collection and technical support.
A large group of well-educated lecturers, from diverse scholarly, artistic and vocational disciplines, works at the School of Education.
Academic programmes at the School of Education are offered in three modes: on-site, as distance education or as flexible education.

The School of Education is located in Stakkahlíð, Reykjavík. www.hi.is/en
