Maria Regina College

Maria Regina College forms part of a network of Colleges in Malta each comprising a number of primary and secondary schools. This is a new system aimed at raising standards and eases the transition from primary to secondary.

Maria Regina College comprises nine schools, the majority of which are housed at the northern part of the island. The College network is made up of three Secondary Schools and six Primary Schools. Through a clear vision the College is to act as a sufficient driver for its schools to come together, to walk together and to work collaboratively, thus promoting educator-to-educator learning. A set of eight aims also portray a very active and proactive College where the child is always at the centre of all activity. Our sole focus is to be Creative, Innovative and Professional in anything that is put on the agenda. It is an established practice of ours to embrace constant self-evaluation because we believe that it is only through such a practice that we can move forward and be of sterling service to the students and the community we serve.

The educational setup in Malta has moved from an Education Division to a Directorate of Education. As a College we form part of a very proactive Directorate whose primary objective as clearly stated in the Mission Statement “is to assure a holistic quality education for all Maltese students within the compulsory school age and beyond, as well as to encourage and support life-long learning. This objective encompasses the development of intellectual, civil, human, ethical, social, emotional and spiritual values and the recognition of fundamental rights and responsibilities.” The Directorate also “aims at providing an efficient and effective system of learning in order to ensure quality education and training relevant to the needs of the Maltese Society. It also safeguards the right of the individual to develop all cognitive potential, resulting in a secure investment for the continual development of the nation.”

There are two Directorates – Directorate for Educational Services (DES) and the Directorate for Quality and Standards (DQSE).
